- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 small onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 3/4 cups water
- 2 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 French baguette
- 8 oz sliced swiss
- Melt butter in soup pot. Stir in sugar. Cook onions on med heat for 10 mins, or until golden brown
- Stir in flour until well blended with pan juices. Add water, wine, broth; heat to boiling. Reduce to low, cover, simmer for 10 mins.
- Cut 1 inch thick slices of bread, toast until just browned. Ladle soup into bowls, place one slice bread on top of soup, and place one slice swiss on bread. Microwave (or bake if bowls oven-safe) until cheese is just melted.
